Give Your Soap a Good Home: Why a Proper Soap Dish Matters

Soap Care, Stone City Farm Style

We put a lot of love into every bar of goat milk soap we make, so it breaks our hearts a little when we see one sitting in a puddle on the edge of the tub. A handmade bar deserves better, and honestly, so does your wallet. The good news? The fix is simple: a proper soap dish.

Why Your Soap Dish Matters

Handmade goat milk soap is made with real oils and real goat milk, without the hardeners and fillers found in many store-bought bars. That's what makes it so gentle on your skin, and it's also why it needs a chance to dry out between uses.

When a bar sits in standing water, it softens, turns mushy on the bottom, and washes away much faster than it should. A dish that lets water drain away and air flow underneath keeps your bar firm, so it lasts longer and looks nicer, too. It's the same reason our soap labels say to keep your bar in a draining soap dish, away from direct streams of water.

Why We Love Teak

When it came to choosing a wood for our soap dishes, teak was an easy pick:

  • Naturally water resistant: Teak is rich in natural oils, which help it shrug off moisture. That's why it's been a favorite for boat decks and outdoor furniture for generations.
  • Resists rot and mildew: Those same oils help teak hold up in a damp bathroom far better than most woods.
  • Built to last: Teak is a dense, durable hardwood, so a good soap dish can serve you for years.
  • Beautiful and warm: Its golden-brown grain adds a natural, spa-like touch to any sink, tub, or shower.

Pick Your Dish

Our teak soap dishes are handcrafted, measure 4 in. long x 3 in. wide x 1 in. tall, and are designed with slats that lift your bar up and let water drain right off:

Then pair it with a bar (or a few) of our goat milk soap, like Honey & Oat, Luscious Lavender, Eucalyptus Spearmint, or Rosemary Mint, $8 each. Stocking up? Our 1lb Soap Box is $18.

Make Every Bar Last

  1. Let it drain. Keep your bar on a slatted, draining soap dish, never a solid one that holds water.
  2. Keep it out of the spray. Set your soap where the shower stream won't hit it.
  3. Let it breathe. Give the bar time to dry completely between uses.
  4. Rotate bars. If you go through soap quickly, alternate two bars so each one has time to firm up.

Pro tip: Every so often, rinse your teak soap dish with warm water and let it air dry to wash away soap buildup. It'll keep looking (and working) like new.
